Hey folks.

I have a 5-year-old Echo Mia (internal) that I use on an ancient PC to record my trio's rehearsals (with Adobe Audition). It has always worked perfectly for me. The PC, though, is seriously decrepit...10 years old...1.2 GB hard drive (!!...yes, they used to make those)...

Anyway, I've just purchased a Dell Inspiron E-1705, 2 GB memory, 80 GB hard drive, and I have an additional 160 GB external hard drive. I'm running Vista.

My question is, can I somehow house and use my current sound card? Or am I better off buying an external one? I've been happy with my current set-up for years and frankly don't know what's out there--or even what the capabilities of external sound cards are (I only need to record stereo).

thanks,

you could conceivably do it with a magma cardbus to pci adapter, which will run you about $1,000 for the basic model. :)
i used to use an echo mia too (i had two) and have had a bunch of interfaces since. i'm a happy echo audiofire12 user right now. you might want to consider the audiofire2 or audiofire4 firewire interfaces which feature much better a/d d/a converters and vista support. a member here (mrbowes) has an audiofire2 for sale at a great price in the fs/ft section.

Thanks kojdogg--I think I'll pass on the $1,000 scenario...

And I appreciate the Echo Audiofire2 advice! I don't even know what's out there anymore. In fact, I didn't even know these things are called "interfaces"...So the audiofires are Vista-happy? I'll look into the used unit being sold here.

Thanks again!

PS

any thoughts on the Behringer FCA202? seems very low-cost and has good reviews but I recall that some years back Behringer gear wasn't very well-regarded.

thanks,
