Could someone explain the real benefit of the Echo Layla 24 bit interfaces to me? I have the opportunity to purchase a 20 bit Echo Layla, and it seems like SUCH a good deal.

What's the difference? Is there a REAL difference?

Sorry for the silly question... Not so silly to me!

actually, the layla 24 has only 8 analog outs as compared to 10 on the 20 version. I have the 20 bit unit, it gets a little warm...like they all supposedly do, and don't find the 20 bit quality to be a limiting factor in getting a sound I like. But then, I don't have the 24 bit version in my studio either to compare. I've seen the 20 bit ones go as cheap as $250, while a new layla 24 seems to be about $700 new... don't see any used ones at this point, but I am sure they are out there.

Personally, I think you will be happy with the 20bit layla. Also, I don't think the two are compatible, should you want another one added to your setup in the future.

I don't know, but I kinda feel the 20 layla is at the top of the heap of 20 bit converters in this price range and is not necessarily outdated just yet. I certainly would want it over a Soundblaster 24 bit card, without a doubt.

Honestly, I dont think 20 bit means squat. Its 16bit or 24bit or its not really making any difference at all. Your best buy is a 24bit card.
