Echo in rehersal space

My band and I are getting ready to record preliminary tracks for our next demo. The only problem is our studio has the most horrid echo I have ever heard, I cannot hear the guitar or my bass(and I'm right next to a full stack), just the drums and cymbals. I have seen various accoustical treatments but have never had any experiance putting these up. My main focus is rolling off the high end to hear the guitar more. Is there anyone who has had any experiance treating rooms for EXTREME echos? What should I do?

Can you provide room dimensions including ceiling height and whether it is flat or "cathedral"? Also, what else is in the room? Couches, etc. What are the wall, floor and ceiling materials?

the room is about 10x30 and the ceiling is flat and is 12' tall, the floor plan of the room is this shape:

All made out of very thin drywall, it also has a loft type space where you can store stuff above the walls maybe about 4 feet more. that is what the plusses represent. The floor is about 1 1/2 thick ply wood. To get a better idea what the room is like go to

The problem has likely to do with bad frequency absorption and standing waves because of the parallel walls.

I know as good as nothing about that sort of stuff, but you should check the studi building part of this bbs and post your message over there. Those guys really are amazing in solving this kinda stuff.
