Magic Bag Of Sounds
i'm looking for some sort of solution for recording 6 or maybe even 8 tracks at once. i've been looking at the fostex vf160 which records 8 at once.. but i know all i'm gonna do is put the tracks on my computer and mix it there, so 99% of the fostex's features are useless to me. i don't have a laptop and i record in different sounding rooms so portability is sort of important. i'd really just like something like the alesis masterlink but i don't need that many inputs and i probably never will, so i'd like to get something cheaper. is there anything out there you think?

like i said, i don't have a laptop so dragging around a computer isn't really an option.

I have a friend who has used a Fostex 16 track for recording a live band for many years now.
The tracks right off the machine sound quite good. My friend didnt know how to properly apply EQ and compression as he mixed all the tracks on his PC after he got home. and he over did everything.

But I will give my vote to the Fostex for live and studio also I like the Korg D1600MKII its very nice and can do as the Fostex can 16 mono tracks.
Others here use the Yamaha AW16G its a great machine(I owned one), only thing I hated about it was the set up of the tracks 8 mono and 4 stereo.
I like having control over all the tracks.
