Check google shopping. you can find KRK Rokit 6's for 200 there or 170 used, which are great monitors for the money. Otherwise I have found my Etymotic Hf5's (90$ on B&H) to be great for mixing, and of course, I still check my mixes on cheap speakers to make adjustments. If you really want to be thorough with your mixing, it's good to check on lots of different speakers anyways.

Just to be clear here, $200 is the price for (1) new KRKG2-6". A new 'pair' would be $400. $170 would be an awesome price for a pair of used G26's. I paid that for my used G2-5" pair.

Thank you for the clarification Jimmy. I did think that they were ~200 a pair.

I'd rather mix thru my hi-end headphone rig than any cheap monitors.

Just out of curiousity, what hi-end headphone rig do you have? I plan to spend 1400$ on a pair of Beyerdynamic cans, mostly for listening pleasures but I might also be tempted to mix on them due to sensitive easily-annoyed neighboors. Out of the question?

I have a Headroom Max Headphone amp and a pair of Sennheiser HD600's.
With the crossfeed circuit Headroom has, they sound VERY similar to my monitors in the room regardless of what anyone says. I mix on them or the monitors ...... pretty much 6 of 1 , half a dozen of the other.
