hey guys. i am looking to get an e609 but i cant find it any where. i can find the silver version but i hear the black verson is better but cant seem to locate one....can some body tell me where to find one ...also is there a big defference between the black and silver version...thanks.

http://www.gearwire.com/sennheiser-e900-series.htmlThe trained monkey goes into the e906 at the the end of the video which is basically a combo of the 609 sv and black or a split. Apparently the black is flatter and the sv is brighter. I like my 609sv for a bright, thick munchy guitar sound but I have found myself tossing it for a 57 more than once.

yeah, the black 609, is actually a 906.

i personally love my 609, it's colored more for guitar....a little warmer I.M.O.

No it isn't. A 609 black is a mic that is no longer manufactured. It's usually sought after much more so than a silver or a 906. Some people even refer to it as the "real" 609.

My biggest mistake was selling my 609 Black. The silvers, while I thought they were cool at first, are grainy and bright. I've come to learn, mainly from a day with M Wagener and getting my hands on some ribbon mics, that brighter is NOT better. The smoother rounder mics like the 609 black or 906, or even 409 (awesome) sound so much better and sit better than a 57 or 609 silver, etc. Right now I'm putting a SHinybox ribbon on guitars and needing NOTHING but a little Eq-ing at the amp. Nothing after the fact. Round, thick, still plenty of top, but fuller than I could ever get with anything else.

During our mic shootout in Nahsville on dirty guitar, the 609 Silvers of mine finished in the last 3 of about 15 mics. I sold them the following week. I'm currently in the market for a 906 though.
