Thinking about getting some sennheiser e604 mics for toms. Anyone have any experience with these, good or bad?
MAYBE THIS IS A DUMB, BUT HERE IT GOES. Also they look like they have a clamp built on to the holder, is this used to mount to the drum instead of using a mike stand? Or do you use a mic stand and clip it to the rim?

They're pretty decent.

You can clip it right on the drum if you wish. Whats your budget? You may be able to get something better in that range.

Budget on tom mics, don't know yet. I'm getting ready to buy some 603s for overheads very soon. So it will have to be after them. GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS?
THANKS

I like the e604. Got a good sound out of them with my last recordings. Also use them live alot, doing PA. Very handy, just half the mic stands...

Ameth,

I've always heard that the 604s were "Da' Bomb" on toms (and was strongly considering these), what would you consider to be better (within a fairly close price range to the 604s)?

The 604's are OK. But if you really want an awesome Tom mic...I wouldn't look any further than the beyer m-201. They leave the 604's for dust

Budget now is about $200 for some overheads. What about some other mics to use for toms? I also need to get some phantom power, got any ideas?
