I just bought one for $450 US... (used)... Comes with seperate CdRom Drive, SCSI Cable, Oh and the best part.. It has been upgraded to 128 Megs... Thats a Pretty damn powerful sampler... I am also getting 8 Copies of E-mu Sample Disks... Im not really a fan of hot software, but I figure, it'll give me a chance to "preview the sounds" and I will probably end up buying more legit ones off of E-Mu If I like the sounds... (so in the end E-mu wins, sort of..)

Anyways.. Anyone here got one?.... Anything I should watch out for?....

Joe

Bruce.... I have read reviews, that the outputs are weak (very quiet), and anything you sample ends up sounding tooooo warm and compressed... (good ol' emu filters)

Only 2 reviews out of 6-7 said that though, so maybe those guys were deaf...:)

You see any of these things with the unit?...

I haven't got it yet.... Tommorow it arrives.

The gain structure is variable, but set low by default - you bring it up and it's fine!

I got the extra RAM, CD-ROM, and zip drive... I like the unit a lot - it sounds very good....

The few times I did sample to analog inputs on the unit it sounded great........

No complaints whatsoever!

hey vox,

do you have any sample CDs with African and Indian percussion that I can buy for cheap off you?

No.... In fact mine aren't even legit copies.... I usually don't accept them, but, it's giving me a chance to preview all the sounds and figure out with disks I will end up buying off of E-mu...

Check out Ebay... lots of cheap samples there..

I see sample Cd's going for $9.99 all the time...

Hey Bruce...

I think this guy who sold it too me, owns a store or something and doesn't know much about them...

It also has a Zip drive, instead of the original floppy... he never listed it in his auction either, in fact i don't think he even knew it had a Zip drive.....

I wonder if someone traded it in to him, and he doesn't know much about them.....

And when I boot it up, the screen says "ESI 4000", and then the version and all that shit.... Whats that about..

Im thinking that maybe when the ram is upgraded it turns it into a 4000... Can that be right?....

Joe

Hmmm... weird - I can't remember what mine says -- I'll check it and tell you......

Bruce

Joe... sure enough........

It says ESI-4000 when it starts up -- it must be the operating system that the sampler uses.... which makes sense....
