A quick question, if I get an E-Mu card or an AP Card, will I need mic preamps to make the mics sound good, or would it make a difference? Secondly, what are the limitations when it comes to number of tracks...is it imputs = tracks? Thanks!

More info...it if helps

Oh yea BTW, I'm running an AMD Thunderbirg 1.33 GHZ and will have around 1 gb of ram..., the MOBO is an asus a7m266 with an AMD 761 chipset.

Yes, you do need a pre-amp. Cheapest choice is a small mixer.

I don't know how you will manage with the AMD chipset, proper soundcards are temperamental beasts - a pc needs to be well optimised to record audio with low-latency drivers.

You can record as many tracks as your pc can handle, but both an AP or Emu0404 will only provide two mono or one stereo analog inputs.

ok ok!

Well, say I want to be adventurous and ATTEMPT to record 4 mono tracks at once via a soundcard, which one could support that?! =\\ Immortally confused!
