Sorry to post a new thread on these but I wanted this thread to stand out when poor shmoos like me go wading through backlogged threads using the search engine. I hope this thread pops up quickly and easily for those folks.

These cards are highly controversial, so I wanted to post this link to a thread on the RightMark forums. Loads of very useful information. Hunt for posts by "ICHi". The discussion gets interesting starting at the 2nd page.

Wow! Very interesting indeed! Thanks for giving us the link.

I ordered an 1820 today. Now the steep part of the learning curve begins. Gulp!

We are in the same boat bro! I'm wating for my Hard Drives to arrive, I have the feeling we will need a EMU Forum :D or all of us need to start @ least a thread for the 1820 cards ;).

EMU should provide a forum for the 1820 users.....we need to send e-mails to EMU, don't you think??

Congrats dude!

I hope it was the 1820M you ordered?

Nope. Straight 1820. I'm not that concerned with the slightly higher SNR etc that the 1820M offers, and serious sampling is not in my plans. The $$ saved allowed me to order a new Strat and an A-T mic too. My 15 year old son is showing more interest in music every day, and I'd love to get some tracks down and burn a few CD's for fun. I may be purchasing a more serious program like Cakewalk or the latest Cubabsis if I outgrow the bundled stuff with the 1820. I can deal with that. This is all new to me, like I said in another post, I last did this stuff with a Fostex in '83. Home computers were TRS-80's and Commodores and we used cassette tapes for backup! Puke!!
I got 200gig of harddrive just waitin' to get filled with my musical stylings.

The 1820 comes with Cubase 5.1, which is plenty serious for most people. Certainly more serious than any version of Cubasis that's around. Cubase 5.1 is a very solid program that you can grow into.

That is reassuring. Thanks! Hopefully ICHi will pass the word that a forum for users would be much appreciated at the E-MU site.
