E-mu 0404 Help?!

I just bought an E-MU 0404 and started using it with N-Track. Now I'm having a real problem. If I select just the card in the preferences I get playback just fine, but can't record. If I select the E-MU AISO, I get a record signal, but when I press play or record, I get severe artifaction and the system locks up.

Is anyone else using this card with N-Track? I was using version 3.3 and upgraded to version 4.x. My regular sound card works fine (but doesn't get good A/D quality) as well as an M-Audio Quattro USB. With the Quatrro I get alot of time problems, like the track speeds up or slows down and stretches. (As I record, the track becomes longer than the time and more out of sync.)

Serious Grrrr on all levels! I would like to use the E-Mu, but it's getting very frustrating.

Please help...
 
Have you checked the mfg site for driver updates? Sounds like a driver issue. ASIO is supported by N-Tracks and I haven't heard anyone else with ASIO issues like yours.
 
do you have another sondcard in your system? If so you need to disable it. I've tried using it with my old card together. It doesnt work with another sound card.

That's a good idea. I'll try it and let you know. There's one built into the motherboard.

It works with the M-Audio ASIO, but there's the other problem of the strech. I'll check drivers as well. I think the sound card issue might be on too.
 
BTW, is it possible to use more than one card so I can have more inputs? I'd like to be able to use the subs on my mixer to track more than just stereo.
 
Interested in answers to this problem since I'm considering this card and using it with NTrack
 
huh, must have worked......didn't come back.....I was thinking of picking up a 0404 as well.
 
Actually, I just haven't been over to the studio to try it yet. I have a system here at home for mixes that uses a different card and I'm on another project. I'll post probably tomorrow since I'm going over tonight.
 
Well I bought the 0404 and will give my report probably next week once I get it and give it a try!
 
Well, I updated the drivers and disabled the other card. It solved the artifacted playback problem. Much better.

I think I may have introduced a new problem by upgrading to version 4.x. I don't think I like it as well. Everything is in a new spot. I think each iteration uses more resources also, as more than 8 tracks locks up the interface on an Athlon 2600+. Mebbe I need more RAM. I'm sure I've got another dimm around here somewhere in these piles of computers I have.

I'm going to try backing it down to 3.3 and that should solve it.

Switched back to my M-Audio Quattro. I'll deal with the Emu later. Going try changing the card order and remove uneccessary hardware. I don't think I have enough free IRQs. Gonna buy another 512MB for it, maybe a gig.
 
Alright just got my EMU0404 the other day. Install and setup went ok, upgraded the drivers and patchbay to the most recent version. Diabled onboard soundcard. Getting great recording results using ASIO. Playback I was having problems. Latency seems kinda crappy. I think it is a system issue. Disabled antivirus and spyware and moved latency down to 20ms. Still going to tweak tonight.
 
Last night I recreated my patchbay channels on the card.
Reinstalled N-Track 4.0.4
Using default N-track settings. Set ASIO drivers and other settings.

*I noticed that whenever a different latency is selected the computer needs to be rebooted. Also N-tracks is VERY flaky when making changes to drivers, buffers, etc. I was fighting the program for awhile. Once all set the way I wanted it works fine. Computer needs to be rebooted almost everytime a change is made in N-tracks.

Getting Perfect play back, recording, midi at less then 4ms.

This card, once working properly, is great.

Me too! 10 friggin' years now.

I may compare notes with you. I haven't F'd with the card for a while. I went back to my M-Audio 'cause I hate troubleshooting my own gear. I spend so much time doing it for other people I cringe if I have to do it for myself.
