Ill mic my crate vc508 with a 57 off axis and my C1, or my mc319 5ft away.

On rythem the 57 only...if your not careful you will get mud.

PS hold back on your distortion a little from what you think you want because a little goes farther than you may think.

Ever try it on snare?

Chess, sorry for the delay...I didn't see the Batlight. :p

Yes, in typical fashion I prefer the SM57 (you know, maybe 1" inside the hoop maybe 1.5" to 2" above pointing center) although the E/V ain't bad...

BUT

I enjoy using it as my "ring" mic.

I take the ND468 and I hover it just inside the hoop and position it to point straight down at the edge of the head where all the ring is. I then lower the mic to be maybe 1/8" off the head. The reason I do this is for ring. I like having solid snare ring that I can blend in for some bigness during mixdown. Ring helps define the image of the snare if you will, you can really picture it between those speakers ringing away.

Typically works best with reversed phase but of course that can vary.

Is the Senn e606 any different from the e609?

They look very similar. The 606 may just be the European version. I could only find a couple of places that sell it here in the states.

I recently tried out a great micing technique for guitar cabs involving a dynamic and a large diaphragm condensor used together. I used an SM57 and a CAD M37. Have them pointed in an X configuration so each mic is angled diagonally compared to the face of the guitar cab and pointed towards the wall of the speaker. When I tried this I wound up situating both mics basically in front of the center of the cone, but angled so they weren't actually pointing at the cone. You have to mess around a little bit to make sure they're not out of phase with each other, but once you do you get a really big guitar sound. I only got to record a snippet like this, and it was a good sound but I wanted a few more highs so the next time I'll probably point the mics more towards the center of the cone.

Yeah I have been doing this for years. A Condensor and a Dynamic together are a tough combo to beat on a guitar cab.

Hmmm ... I'll have to read up on it, was thinking about getting one.

Thanks for that, if I find out anything more about it I'll let you know...

Hi, I did some research! To quote a few people on other boards:

(...) Or the MD409 and BF509 to a e609 and maybe the e606 (AKA "609 silver")

I have called Sennheiser here in Berlin and they told me that it is the exact same mic. They couldent answer my question to WHY the mics have gotten different names in US and the rest of the world.

so just ONE more time for stupid Danish people (of which I am one):

e609 silver = e606

I think that's clear enough :)

According to some, the e609 NON-SILVER sounds a little darker, almost muddy.
I think for non-US people the e606 would be the way to go :)

Stan.
