Question:

Will a good pre say a UA 621 or La610 comp combo yield the same results with a dynamic as a condenser? only reason i ask is i know room noise is way different. didn't know how it would effect the mics differntly. i use an re 20 and a rode nt-2 for vox...any help appreciated..

Good results? Yes. Same results? No.

Comparing apples to oranges.

OK

So if i'm looking to upgrade my vox chain, would a LA-610 be a stupid buy running with an Re 20, Nt-2, or a Heil Pr 40? I am building my studio now, so my room will be treated. Just wanting to know when using a dynamic is there less influence by a preamp then using a condenser? I use Dynamics more on vox. That may change with a treated space, but i've grown to like the sound of the dynamics....
again thanks

Ryan,
Sounds like your doing VO work? If that's the case, PM me and we'll talk offline.

The preamp is even more important with a dynamic mic than with a condenser...a mic like the RE-20 or SM7b only really shines through a great preamp. A dynamic mic is generally less sensitive to background noise than a condenser though. An LA-610 will be just fine for either application.

i don't have anywhere that i know of to test a Preamp. i want something with some coloration, warmth. will an la610 be to clean?

well i guess i have to register on gs to see it...I was looking to buy used and it seems the ua stuff would hold it's value. just in case i don't care for it a few months down the road... i'm also thinking about a tube mic sp t3 or rode k2. ...great now i'm going to have to sell something..anyone need a roland 2480 for remote recording???LOL

Looks like i really need to look into it then, i'll have to drive 2 hours to find one. i'll start another post to pick a new reasonable mic, maybe a blue baby bottle...
