well this forum seems a bit dead lately so i thought i would start something new to talk about.
I got my mits on a copy of edirol orchestra today. i'll be honest, i didn't pay for it, a buddy gave it to me. It's stricly for evaluation purposes, and if i like it i'm gonna purchase it, if not, i'm gonna go with garritan. Anywho, i've been playing aorund with it and it does sound pretty good. It doesn't seem like there is much to it really. Anybody had any experience with it? is it more in depth than what meets the eye?

In general, i'm just getting into the idea of Dxi, they are pretty cool. I got edirol quartet (i bought this one) and it is pretty cool as well. They sound great. Anybody have any dxi's that they swear by? what are your favorites? what are your enemies? The dreamstation that comes with S3 is kind of neat as well.

One more thing. I treid playing around with live synth pro but cannot figure that one out at all. I ahve no idea what sound fonts are. when i open it, it asks me to load a sound font, it says that they come with S3 but i have checked every folder installed and i don't have any sound font files. is it worht me looking into thi?

What do you mean by "It doesn't seem like there is much to it really"?

Check www.hammersound.net for Soundfonts. :)

What software are you using? Was there any DXI's included?
Do you have a VSTi adaptor?
Lot's of options my friend,I reccomend a sampler that imports sounds rather than something that's close ended.

I tried livesynth once...

ahh i suppose i should have been more general, i meant to include vsti into my comment as well as dxi. i believe the edirol orchestra runs in both vsti and dxi mode. What i meant by my comment moskus is that it seems like you just pick your patch, add a bit of verb and/or chorus and that is what you have to work with. With garritan, you can use the mod wheel to control the degree of virrato and volume and whatnot. I havn't gotten my keyboard yet (hurry up UPS!!) so i havn't had the chance to play around with it seriously. I was just wondering if these features were available in edirol.

I have this other vsti called absynth. it has some pretty neat sounds in it. It is more for techno i think but i may be able to use some of the sounds.

I'd like to get a really good piano synth, any suggestions? Also i saw a guitar synth by steinberg, how does that sound?

No, no, no... You can edit almost every patch available. Don't remember the specific button, but it's in the main menu.

Read the manual... :p

There is a lot more to all the Edirol Softsynths than meets the eye. Get stuck into it, editing sounds, adding effects and more sounds etc to create your own patches and save them for future use.
