Unless a program demands that you use it I would stay away from it. In order for it to be of much benefit the programs need to support it anyway.

DX sort of encapsulates a lot of different technologies.

No, DX9 should not have any impact on your DX plugins. It might have an impact if you use Direct Sound drivers for your soundcard, but that's rare.

Now I say "should" and "might" because this is Microsoft we're talking about. I game a lot on my machine, which is also a DAW, and I keep up to date on DX. Haven't installed 9 yet though, but I will.

What games are you guys playing? I've been playing a lot of America's Army and Battlefield 1942.

DX9 should really take off with the next generation of hardware/software. Since it is the foundation it usually takes awhile before anyone can take advantage of it. I don't even think the SDK is out yet.

GLOOM!!!! the only game for crazy audio nuts....pick up game of engineers around 12:00 AM LA time

The last time I looked, the only video card out there that is 100% Direct X 9 "certified" is the new ATI Radeon 9700. Older video cards should work fine, but they won't take advantage of all the new 3D features.
