How close is DVD Audio; & will it catch & surpass CD Audio?

Right now my PC-based studio is set up for 16/24 res & 44.1 thru 96 kHz. Is it worth upgrading to 192 kHz to be ready for DVD-A?

Will a DVD-A play on a standard DVD player?

Actually, I guess a more important question would be: where can I find info on formats, hardware, cross-platform compatibility, recording, etc?

Thanks in advance,

dvd-a doesn't play in all dvd's, but it also depends on the disc you use... i can play dvd-a's in my car no problem, but i can't play them with my onkyo dvd player.

I was talking to somebody about DVDA the other day and realized I had no clue what players would play them. I have trouble believing that a $100 DVD player has 192khz convertors on them.

I do know that DVDA is pretty flexible so you either get fewer high res channels or more lower res channels for surround. I wouldn't worry too much about 192khz right now. It is probably 2 years away from being mainstream and by that time the costs will have come way down.

The real question is if your recording and monitor chain has enough bandwidth to really use 192khz.

i doubt if a $100 dvd has 192 converters too.. my dvd/cd player in my car was $1400 and is 24/96
go check out techtv or go to the website.. i saw a show that fresh gear had on dvd-a along the players and disc to use a few weeks ago...
