Should i worry about people returning cd's from cdbaby that are duplicated cdr's? I understand that these won't work in older cd players, but replicated discs will. I have an old aiwa CA-DW635 jambox that doesn't recognize the cd, but my philips cdr778 recorder does recognize it. Do you think this will be a problem? I hope not.

Depending on your run, Discmakers has pretty good deals and they are pressed.

Older equipment is dying out. You can't worry if someone is holding onto a stereo from 1988.

aiwa.webp

here's my jambox. manufactured in 98 or 93. CD does work in my 99' chevy silverado. Cd player may be newer; not sure. Next time, i'll just save up and get 300 replicated i guess. I thought i read somewhere that cd's were coming back. I'm really behind the curve. When i have more money, i guess i'll kick in the digital distribution. Personally, i still like albums, collections of songs. I know i'm a dinosaur. I don't record with a computer, and never owned an ipod.

If you think you can sell 100 or 300 CDs, go for the replicated ones. Otherwise, don't worry about people returning the duplicated ones - you can even put it in the description.

I've never sold a CD. Always downloads. Sign up with CD Baby and opt in for the digital distribution and be done with it. They'll get your album into every online distributor then it's up to you to promote.

My promotion is solely the link in my sig here and yet I still sold around $100 worth of music. (I say that like it's a good thing :D )

thanks mike, and chili, i think you sold me. I don't know why i was under the impression that people like to get cd's with inserts, etc. I'm going to activate digital distribution sooner or later. I'm poor right now. I'd actually prefer to just do singles, because it takes so long to do a cd, but the corpyright would be expensive if i want to do one at a time. I'm on it. Appreciate the guidance and feedback! I got an e-mail saying that i sold a cd, but they chose to remain anonymous. Okay, whatever. Maybe an ex bandmate:)

Just do what you have as a group. Call it what ever, at least you save some cash by doing song together for copyright purposes.

That's right. In the US you can register your songs as a collection and pay the copyright fee only once.

If they order a CD from CD Baby they have a computer than can play it or rip it to mp3. If they order with a smart phone they'll just get the download because they probably don't even own a CD player.

I'm talking about recording a song every two or 3 months. I'm guessing i'll have ten more songs in two years; too long to wait to register a collection. Well, i could maybe do 3 tunes as a collection. It's better than paying full fee for one.

Yes, that was the point.
