Dummy load/line-in recordings VS Isolation Box

Hey, I wanted to know if isolation boxes really made any differences in the feel of air being push comparing with a line up/dummy load using cab impulses ( Recabinet 3 for example )

I'm looking for the Axetrak atv model or the randall isolation box or for a hot plate as atenuator/dummy load.

Would also like to know if its possible to acheive to a great sound at bedrooms/appartment levels micing a cab with a 50 watt single rectifier head + 2x12 mesa cabinet using a hot plate or if its still too loud/sacrificing too much tone.

This is for high gain tones mostly, from standard E tuning to Drop B.

Thanks for all info/experience/tip you can give me!

From what I've heard from others, those isolation boxes are a waste of money. They're soundproof but they still give you a dead room sound.

You'll get the same (maybe better) effect by simply placing your cab inside a clothes closet (with clothes) and miking it up in there. Add an attenuator, and you can really tailor the sound and still keep the level way down. The Weber MiniMass attenuators are great and pretty inexpensive.

How much level do you need coming out of the cab to get "your tone"...?
