Hello All

I was using 1 8pre with my son, and i needed some more inputs so i picked up a 2nd 1 cheap.
Works fine for recording 16 inputs at once via firewire daisy chained together, and plays back fine using M1 outs to a monitor amp, but

I got a multi channel headphone amp, and tried to use the M2 outs to the headphone amp, but only can hear anything going into the M2, i don't hear anything that's on the M1.
Tried all different ASIO settings to try a route all 16 channels to the M2.

setup i want is

M1 outs to monitor amp
M2 outs to headphone amp

During recording,
i only hear whats going into M1 through the monitor amp
and only hear whats going into the M2 through the headphone amp.

Was thinking that maybe i could build some cables to combined the 2 outs ?
Or will connecting them together via ADAT cables solve this?

Thanks

Well i bought 2 adat cables, and now i am more lost on connections for 8 pre's, still reading manual (*&#%^@_!^%#$#) that what i read

Any one using 2 - 8 pre's via light-pipe than can help.PLEASE

Yeah what DAW.

Also: Does your DAW not recognize the extra outs when you setup your I/O?

Right now Reaper.

Just not sure on the connections, there are 4 places 2 in's and 2 outs the manual states

"Optical
The 8pre provides two banks of optical “lightpipe”
jacks that support the ADAT optical digital I/O
format. At 44.1 or 48 kHz, the upper bank provides
eight channels of 24-bit digital audio, and the lower
bank simply mirrors all 8 channels of the upper
bank.
At 88.2 or 96 kHz, the upper bank handles
channels 1-4 and the lower bank handles channels
5-8 via the industry Standard S/MUX (“Type I”)
protocol for third-party product or MOTU’s own
“Type II” protocol for connecting the 8pre
optically to any MOTU audio interface. For details,
see “Setting the 2x optical mode” on page 27."

The way i am trying it is

PC via firewire to motu 1, motu 1 top (in), --> motu 2 top (out), motu 1 top (out) --> motu 2 top (in) running both at 44.1Khz, 1st one says (interface), 2nd one says (converter)

In Reaper options for audio devices i have ASIO, First input (analog 1) last input (adat 8) all 16 channels assigned, all 16 show audio working per channel, BUT
Setting first out (main outs 1-2) in Reapear, i have it going to headphone amp, i only hear channels 1-4 of motu 1 and only channels 1 and 2 of motu 2, during monitoring

Cuemix could be the key. Get it open and investigate.

I've found myself screaming at the screen a few times over motu routing, only to find that something was turned off in cuemix.

Thanks guys

Steenamaroo you hit most it of right on the head, saw all the bells and meters working fine in Reeaper, but half the sliders in CueMix where all the way down, that's why i couldn't hear those channels. (for got about the mixer) thought Reaper would over ride them.

Still could not get to route the main outputs on the 2nd Motu to go to my Speaker amp, but luckily my headphone amp has main outs on it, so for any one else that needs hook up mine works like this.

PC via firewire to motu 1, motu 1 top (in), --> motu 2 top (out), motu 1 top (out) --> motu 2 top (in) running both at 44.1Khz, 1st one says (interface), 2nd one says (converter)

Moto 1 (main outs) too headphone amp in's, headphone (main outs) (if yours have them) too speaker amp mains.

this allows you to monitor all 16 channels through the headphone amp while recording, then play back all 16 channels through the speaker amp.

Only draw back is that you need to turn off the speaker amp, or turn volume way down as it will be out putting audio at the same time the headphone amp is.
I can live with set up.

Again that's guys, happy holidays
