Dual Cassette Deck

I was wondering if anyone knew of a dual cassette deck that has too independent decks? In other words I need to be able to play a tape on one side into a mixer and come out of the mixer and record whatever I have mixed down. In case you didn't know most dual cassette decks will only record the original tape that is playing and not a seperate source.

Are you sure! I way I recording my portastudio into the tape deck is I use the rear outputs of the portastudio, and run a RCA cable to the inputs of the deck. It woks fine. I use this method on a cheap Sony deck and a cheap Teac deck.
 
I think what Fret means is that although it is a dual cassette, it doesn't have separate inputs for each deck... input into the machine comes at a single entry point, so you can't use each deck as an independent machine.

But unfortunately Fret, I have never seen such a machine.... mind you I haven't looked at what's available in cassette decks for quite a while, so my info may be outdated...

TASCAM and TEAC make a deck that is completely independant. We have the TASCAM version. It has 2 sets of ins and outs. It will record simultaneously from 2 different sources.

I think most pro audio companies make a deck like this, or several. They are more expensive than your Circuit city decks, though. And you won't find them in a home electronics store, like the above mentioned CC.

I have owned a dual casette radio that couldn't record an external source. So they do exist. Barely.

Well there ya go! (but I DID qualify what I wrote with an "outdated info" disclaimer!) ;)

But I admit my lack of knowledge there -- I bother very little with cassette decks... I have 2 basic ones... good enough for quick copies or transfers here and there....

I think Fret probably has one of those "all in one" boom box players.. With most of those there are no inputs for the cassettes.

In the old days, I use to own 1 of those Ta-scammy Portastoodio's.I would record my self, say playing guitar and replay the the tape thru the board while at the same time I'm playing the bass which allows me to do 2 tracks at the same time.
 
Tube rca cable. Definitely! They blow the doors off digital rca cable.
 
I have actually only tried it a couple of times with old and cheap decks so I guess I'll have to get a deck and try it. If it doesn't work I'll try another. I don't need to be able to record from two separate sources just record an external source instead of dubbing.
 
"Old and Cheap" will always get you where you're going.
 
If you don't need two really independent cassette decks, get the one with the best sound quality over this functionality issue. Most of the decent ones will allow you to switch a single input port (pair of RCA jacks) to either deck. Mine is so old and shitty that it will only record on one of the decks. It might be fun to have one with dual independent decks and some sort of onboard mixing facility. Like a DJ setup with cassette decks instead of turntables. Don't forget the microphone.

I gave up on hydraulic cable 'cause it leaked fluid all over my carpet. My cats drank it and it cost me big bucks to have their stomachs pumped. That pricey pneumatic stuff solved the problem but now I have to run a long airline to keep the compressor far enough away to allow using a microphone.
 
I'm pumping my cable lines with helium now. It's cheap, relatively non-toxic, and provides great fun at parties.
 
I do it all the time........

I have a Denon 770R. Fully independant rca ins and outs. It rocks. I play tape in deck a, mix in vocals, and record on deck b.
