I am still in OS9.1 and want to slowly converge over to SX and want to know . . . .what is the fastest dual boots that they made that would well work with my existing system?

G4 DP533
cubase 5.1
MOTU 2408 mk II
(2) UAD's
(2) 100GB HD's
1.5GB Memory

I figure that If I can just get by with a little more juice I maybe happy in staying on a fast dual boot G4 instead of the G5 - $ plus plugin $ plus upgrade/crossgrade etc $$$$$

Has anyone have experience with this type of crossing over?
any problems to be expected with installing both?

thx in advance

The fastes Dual boot is a Dual 1.25.

Which is quite respectable.

Personally I think that a G5 Dual 1.8 is a better way to spend your money.

However, the Dual 1.25 g4 is decent for doing a MAJOR project.

I am mixing with a Dual 867 and was considering going to a Dual 1.42 (OS X)

However after many days of thinking, I decided a Dual 1.8 G5 is a btter bet. price to perofrmance.

G5 = 1999, Dual Boot = 1599. Spend the extra 400 bucks and get 3-4 times the power

Just for kicks, there was a test done that showed a SINGLE 1.6 G5 was faster or as fast 9in certain instances) as a Dual 1.42, so a Dual 1.8 is at least 2 times as fast as that which puts it about 3 times faster than a Dual 1.25.

Finally, OS X is a dream to work in.

I USE DP4 and refuse to go back to OS 9.

OR you can add a Gigadesings Dual 1.25 clocked at 1.3 ghz Processor card. They work flawlessly in OS X. (I used one with DP4 and the UAD-1 Card for a while.)

OS 9... the only issuee I had was with an old file, not a new file...If that makes sense.

Wow, I didn't think that the G5 would be that much faster!

Looks like a crossgrade to SX and a 2 UAD...MOTU 2408 II system in the works.

I know the 2408 II in OS 9 was horrible for a long time...(i.e u can't utilize the DP)

Anyone happen to know if similiar sitiuation(s) exist in SX?

OS X is Dual Processor savvy under the hood. Meaning no one has to write drivers for it like they did in OS 9 to utilize the 2nd processor. So whatever software you buy will run on both processors, no fuss, no muss.
