I came home a little tipsy from work (Barman this summer) and did this tune with one of those old crappy nylon string guitars.

The guitar is so Dodgy but I thought I would record with it anyway for fun. Then I did one take of a random lyric concuction and ended up with this strange song....

Its not a very good song, infact I don`t think it really is a song but the vocal turned out alright (in Headphones)?

I listened again this morning and added some backing and a bit of the better guitar towards the end. Is it my head or is this kind of cool or is it just downright rotten?

Would you give it a listen? yes it`s quite boring......

Hey dude, welcome back....

Ya, that guitar sounds dead. Actually it kinda adds a neat effect to it. But it would be nice if it got brighter later on maybe.
Nice vocal stuff actually. Somebody lay down some drums for this guy....

Another great tune Erland.

keep the "dodgy" track for sure. And add some nylon picking and a mandolin. This is a great tune. Let's see, upright bass. Or, you can leave it like it is, and it would stand by itself. I love it.

cool

Hi SLuiCe

Yeh i thought that dead guitar sounds kindof cool with a warm vocal. I was drunk dude! with a tiny little nylon guitar-nuts. Thanks

Alright dtb, thanks for the listen. kindof cool but only sounds alright in headphones. I would love to have a swelling bass and some indie drums at the end. Cheers.

Hi Erland!

Good to see you back here mate. I just came back two weeks ago from my summer job in the US (Summer camp).
The song is good. Definitly up to your standards, but the guitar is driving me crazy - boomy on one hand and dull on the other. Why don't you re-record the guitar part with your regular accoustic?

Oren

Hi Aren

Hey there man!

Good to see again

Yeh it was just a laugh, late last night, too many millers after work, the little nylon was just sitting there waiting to be played. Its so dull and its so toneless but thats kindof why I did it. I don`t have a good guitar mate!

Anyway, good to see you again. I really wish I had time to record aswell as space and equipmnent other than the 4 track and mic. Then i could record something I actually want to record!

nice song........doesn't sound like you're too tipsy as it was performed well...........i like the backing vocals..........its a good song it could be solid as is and could obviously reock with a full band treatment, that's the kind of song you want to have

You know... I am just itchin' to put drums to all your stuff.. :p And this is no exception. BTW, I also think that the "dull" guitar works on the intro, but a nicer guitar needs to come in after that. (along with some drums.. :p)

I'm thinking of caving in and buying digi 002 just so I can finally start recording drums.. who knows.. maybe in a weak moment I'll just go ahead and get it.

Anywhoo.. the mix is nice (for a "drunk" rendition.. :p ) and that guitar you added starts to fill it out a little like it needs to be.. but there's still something missing.. *cough*drums*cough* :p What really sucks is that I can't make mixes this nice when I'm sober.. :( :p

P.S. Who dared to give this thread one star???!?!?!   :o :p Somebody's gonna get their @ss kicked... ;) :p

Nice tune. I really love the vocals on this and the harmony.

imhop -- I thought the guitar sound got a little too bassy...maybe some eq can fix that...but that may be the sound you were going for and this is just a preference ... and also I can only listen in lo-fi so I think that probably makes a difference as well --

Nicely written tune for sure! :)

What do you mean you don't think it's even a song?!
You outwrite me drunk. OK....next challenge....do one in your sleep.....

and then the next challenge could be to see how good he can write when he's tied up and stuffed in the trunk of my car while I'm kidnapping him... :D

I bet I'll get at least two or three mega-hits oat of that...

:D :p

I have a ton of respect for your whole "sound." I don't have anything even remotely negative or constructive for you. Your voice...that's such a cool thing. There is not one single abrasive thing about it, but it's not "soft" either. After you posted "Letter From NY," I immediately downloaded every song I could get my hands on (sadly, only 3 more), and I've listened to them a ton - therefore, I am now an authority on your voice, and it's so unique that I feel confident I could pick it out at 500 yards if you were playing at the far end of a crowded subway terminal. I love your voice. It is, in my mind, an absolutely perfect voice - honest, heartfelt, sheesh, I sound like a groupie, I know...

Your writing is abstract enough (w/o being amorphous) to hold the attention of a lot of people. Okay, I realize now that I've written 500 words of nothing but "You're Great."

Well my friend, you are.
(who the fuck did 1 star????)

hey Erland, it seems you can do no wrong musically..

there is so much that can be done to your tunes.. It amazes me how you show such restraint with them.. I would have added another 10 tracks of sounds to this..

but it doesn't need it..

a pleasure as always..

dude! that was kick ass.... dodgy guitar and all! Very tasteful embellishments with bg vocals and guitar licks. hurry up and get signed....

Hey Man,
.....damn nice vocs........... but you sure as hell know that by now. Great song man.....again. uh, what do you have to drink to write something like this here....... I'ld give up a few brain cells and call it a good trade.

Great work man,

G

If you can record and sing like that and claim you were drunk.........

You and I need to go drinking!

When I am drunk, talking is tough enough, and you can forget about thinking!

This sounds very Kool!

hey, Erland

This song is got that tired feeling coming home after a long day. Great. but, yeah, I agree with WATYF abut having a nicer/brighter guitar coming later in the song.

what's a barman exactly??

AL

Hi Erland!
How are you doing my friend, well I hope.

I love this song, really creeps up on you like some of the Beatles stuff.
Really nice and mello, put's you right in the mood!:D

I thought the guitar sound worked well, and the harmonies are very sweet.
Real nice, good to hear from you again!

Best to you,

Pete

nice!

i really dig this. it feels much different than your other stuff for some reason. and I like the sound of the guitar actually. I don't think you should replace it. and your vocals sound cleaner than others. i think the signal is not peaking as much.

yes, this is screaming for drums, but I've heard a lot of attempts to add to your mixes in the past (including my own sorry attempts) and it always sounds better when it's just you. Although mixmkr did some really cool shit to your 'many years from now' song.

so please keep this as is. i really like it!

and thanks for posting.

yeah, what's a barman? is that like a bar tender?

Very very nice. I like the guitar sound, but I agree with the folk who reckon it should morph into a slightly brighter sound through the track. I'd also slightly cut the low-mids - it's borderline boomy just now.

I want your voice. Can you buy it in cans?

I love the lo-fi feel. I think the track could do with a wee bit of development as it goes on - just to add a bit of variety. Maybe some sort of "toy music box" sound (like No Alarms... by Radiohead)? And a raw, slightly out-of-tune fiddle.

The backing vocals are very sweet too.

Good stuff, as ever.
