Hi there,

I have a question about recording drum tracks to computer. We have an Alesis mixer, and use Samplitude Studio software for the recordings we've made. Is there any way to record drum tracks on separate channels, and have them send to the computer separately? I can't think of a way to do this that would allow each drum channel to be mixed separately, as a guitar, vocal, etc. could be. If there's a hardware/software/whatever change that would allow for this, please let me know.

Thanks very much.

Your sound hardware on your computer needs to support multiple track recording, most generic sound card only support one track at a time.

well...this is not really true....most generic sound cards have a mono micropone input (w/preamp)...but most generic sound cards (at least the ones that I've seen) also have a stereo line in - which will allow you to record 2 tracks at a time....of course the signals have to be at line level which means that you need some sort of external preamp (for mics)...

to expand on this idea...if you want a stereo recording of your kit you can run 2 preamp'd mics into a 'Y' cable into your soundcard line-in - if you want to record any more than 2 channels you're going to have to get a card with more inputs (eg. Delta44 which has 4 inputs) and some decent 'multitracking' software
