HI. Right this is probably a silly question but i want to do a track with everything, drums, bass, this and that (using fruity loops demo etc). I usally just record the accoustic and then add some vocals. Is there a pattern of developing a song. sg. start with drum beats add this add that.......? silly question but I suppose a little plan wouldn`t hurt. Then record guitars over the drum pattern and add bass and vocals.

I usually programme a drum pattern, add a guitar riff, more guitar, add bass, add vocals. That's my usual routine.

BTW how are you planning to do this with FruityLoops? It's not easy to record live with Fruity. As far as I know recording live vocals is impossible. (Unless upgrades have changed this). FruityLoops works mainly with imported samples and wav. files which you arrange on a grid.

I may have misread your post, but it sounds like what you're after is multitracking software like n-Track:

www.fasoft.com

you can record drums and bass and lead synths in Fruity then export to a multitracker to add further tracks.

Apologies if you already know this.

Erland, I have listened to your songs in the MP3 clinic and they are well done. I have been experimenting with the same as you, adding drums and bass to my guitars and vocals. Let me forworn that unless you plan to do a real simple loop it is quite time consuming.

I've been trying a simple kick-snare beat with some hi-hats panned right sort of thing and exporting to a wav. Then I create the bass seperately and export the bass to one wav. I import these into N-Track as two seperate tracks then add guitar tracks and vocals last. However, I play and sing while I listen to the loop in fruity to make sure the timing of the bass and any fills are okay.

Fruityloop/N-track experts - what do you guys do about the sample. Fruity demo only exports 16 bit 44100 HZ. I have been recording on N-track at the same so I don't have to mess with it. Do you convert the fruity wavs up to 96 to do the rest of the song at 24/96 ?

You could do a scratch guitar and vocal track, then lay down the drums/bass, then do the real guitar and vocals. You might end up getting a better guitar and vocal performance that way. Ya know, you can get into it more if the drums are already down;)
