drums and stuffffff...

G'day!
I'm running Pro 3 and i love it. It's great for demos. Gone are the 4 track days! I'm a guitar player and that is the prime instrument in my projects (naturally!) apart from vocals. But! I need some advice on which Drum loop CD's to get. I need great beats and fills and one shots and stuff. I have a few of the promo multi flavoured CD's but i want to get a full drum CD. I think the Sonic Foundry made CD's are great.

hi! what types of music are you into? rock, jazz, rnb? cause there about a zillion cd's with beats on and if you just buy one chances are you'll get one with five hundred great beats that you'll have no use for cause their not what youre into :)

It's always hard to describe your music but let's say it's basically power pop. Distorted guitars, acoustics, lots of chords, some lead...phew! Sometimes different time signatures too. Pretty straight ahead guitar pop really. But one of the great things about Acid is.....throwing crazy loops in there to spice things up a bit. Too cool!
 
Hey, it's been awhile since there's been anything posted on this thread....MC, did you ever find some good drums for use with Vegas? I want to find good drums for Acid, then bring them into Vegas. Here's what I've looked at so far (for Acid):

- Mick Fleetwood loops from Sonic Foundry. The samples on their website are pretty cool.

- Drumtools loop collection, also from SF, is all Roxette drum loops.

- This one might be for you. The one I'm seriously considering getting is from http://www.reeldrums.com They told me that while they don't have Acid-ized loops, he was able to open one of the stereo mixed tracks, sample it into Acid, and it mapped the BPM correctly. It would be some real work to Acid-ize that stuff, but it might be worth it. I highly recommend checking out their website for samples. I'm not sure whether to buy the 2 track stereo mixes (24 bit) or the one shots and build my own loops.

The other thing I've tried is sampling patterns from my Alesis SR16, though I've not quite succeeded at that. I end up with this weird phasing thing when I drop it into Acid.

I haven't bought a drum CD as yet and i am still looking. There are so many around that you have to narrow it down to particular features. One of those features should be that they are pre-Acidized. SoFo loops sound great so i'm happy to explore their offerings. The Reel Drums idea is good where the emphasis is on drum parts from a song structure aspect i.e intros, fills, flams, choruses, outtros...blah blah...does SoFo have drum CD's formatted like a song? I dunno but i'd be keen to hear it. All my current projects have straight loops right through, no fills no accents, so there's a fair bit of production to go yet. However, i create interest by slipping in a latin groove or maybe some Indian tabla or reversing a loop in Sound Forge and making that an intro. Acid makes it sooooo easy.

p.s i'd sell that SR16 if i were you. i still have my Boss Dr-550 but drum loops are definately the go!
 
While I was seriously considering Reel Drums, I ended up getting the Sonic Foundry Drum Tools instead. It was less expensive and I needed the loops right *now* for a project. I think I'll still get the Reel Drums at some point, but let me say, I am not disappointed with the Drum Tools library!

All the files on the disc are (obviously) Acidized, and come in 4/4 and 6/8 patterns, fills, flams, and plenty of one shots. Lots of persussion too. No, they are not formatted as songs, just loops. I think the disc I received has another smaller drum library on it (not as good but somewhat useful), as well as some free non-drum loops. (Mostly stuff from their "8 Pack" thingy.)

I'll keep this file up there for another week, in case someone is searching this forum in the future and is wondering why the link doesn't work. :)

All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. It's not the conclusive drum loop library, but it has already served a purpose for me. For $50, it was a cheap experiment and low risk. And no, I'm not a SF sales person. :)

You can always " write " using crap samples in acid then later Drumagog em ( www.drumagog.com ) with good samples.

Finding drum samples that are up to par with drumagog's 8 velocity layers X 3 random layers is HARD to do, but, you can make your own. Every time a band comes in with a good drumset I make em hit em 8 times quietest to loudest, then again then again...no hit EVER plays twice in a row the same, so even rolls sound real! I've been trying to find someone with knowledge of making ftp's so that we can all give each other samples we make

i enjoyed your "funky thing" mp3. the drum parts are great. i will keep on the SoFo trail for the moment although i'm finding it tough to locate a supplier in Australia! sheeesh! i know i can buy over the web but i'd love to audition a large part of a loop CD.

I have the Drum Tools CD, and I'm going to get Mick Fleetwood's CD, as well as the alternative drums CD. I love the SF stuff, it works extremely well.
