Had a band (NOT mine) in and spent about 6 hours getting some basic tracking done on about 4 tunes, tracking into the HD24. I'm gearing up to start the vocal dubs when Einstein the drummer who's sitting on the couch right behind me says "what's this thing here do?" as he reachs over, grabs the handle on one of the removeabvle hard drives (the one we're useing) and procedes to pull it out. To make a long story short, there went the day. All gone. This is the second time this has happened. The first time was a virgin drive so nothing was lost. I've since fabricated a screen that mounts over the face of the HD24 so people that don't know what to do with their dick beaters can't sabotage the operation. The worst part is, I have to sit through another 6 hours with these rocket scientists.

These true stories are alot funnier than drummer jokes. :D

I couldn't even get mad at the dumbass (aside from the instant rush I got when I realized what he had done). They're like "You mean it's all gone????" And I say "Of course it's all gone, bless his pointed little head. He pulled the active drive. The machine didn't like that. No sir, not one bit."

T-Rat -- don't you have a cage in your studio where you can keep drummers when they're not tracking? I wouldn't dream of just letting them "roam-free" behind me in the control room!!!

:p

:D :D

Why didnt you use a drum Machine? They smell better, act better, and can actually keep a beat:D

And you only have to beat the changes into it ONCE.

Thats figgin amazing! What a pud.LOLWell he paid for time and now hes gotta pay again;) right! You runied the drive now you gotta pay a hundred more on top of the time...That will teach the Lil' pecker;) :p J/K

OMG.

What the fuck was he thinking. This scares me. I'm gonna make some "Don't touch" red labels to mark my drives.

Does anyone know if only the drive itself is likely to get hurt or could this damage the HD24 too ?

The HD didn't like it and it scared the shit outa me . I powered it down and rebooted it and it came back to life. It doesn't like that drive anymore though. I'm going to attempt to reformat it to see if it'll come back to Jesus.

I'm pretty sure I read somewehre in the manual that when someone makes a move like that, there's risk of physically damaging the drive. Not just the content. Something about the head that reads the disk or something.

I would throw the drive away if I were you, and not risk anything more by putting it in again.

Just make the einstein drummer cash up for a new drive.

I wonder if internally, that's grounds for a head crash on the HD24!?

I agree get them to pay for a new drive for you.... and give them that one...

So, did you make them pay for the 6 hours again?

Yup. And the cost of the old drive plus the cost of a new drive to do there stuff over on.

Since I wound up getting a Wackie MDR instead of the HD24, I guess I wasn't aware that the drive caddies on the HD24 didn't lock in. On my MDR there is a key lock that physically won't allow the drive to budge in the bay until it is released (I tried it deliverately just to see).

Bummer to have to learn things like this.

Oh well, more money in the coffer, huh? (Plus more time to look over your shoulder wondering what the next idiot move will be!!)

Darryl.....

I'll have to post a pic of my new "child proof" HD cover.

Strange Leaf,

No fame for me. I'm too uncoordinated to move all my appendages simultaneously in rhythm to handle drums. I do alright on my bass, but that's about it.
