Drum track options...

Hey guys... I just started playing w/ the Drum Manager in SONAR... I'm definitely NO drummer & mainly just recording acoustic guitar/vocals.

I've got Acid 3.0 also & have tried throwing in some loops but haven't been totaly satisfied... hard to find stuff that's not "funky". I'm more of a Bob Dylan style than Moby... lol

basically I'm looking for the easiest way to throw down a quick simple straightforward drum track for singer/songwriter/acoustic guitar type music.

Should I keep playing w/ Drum Manager, get better at working w/ those Acid audio loops or is there another easy option?

FYI, can't afford a drum machine!!!

One option is to get something like PG Music's Band In A Box. You can generate pretty decent MIDI accompaniments (bass, drums, piano and sometimes strings and guitar too) and use just the drum parts. They won't put Jim Keltner or Bernard Purdie out of a job, but they're more than decent enough to get a idea down on "tape."

Similar results with very different interface and way of working. I find BIAB more straightforward and flexible.

I know what you mean. I'm no drummer either...but you can learn right? My style is popmusic, and it doesn't always have to groove in a funky way. Sometimes I just want make something Beatlesque. And Ringo isn't that funky. Well, loops suck anyway...can't control anything. How can you record what's in your head if the drumpart is just hammering on like there are NO accents or NO rhythmic changes in your song?

For a Bob Dylan-style of music, the programming can be fairly easy. So perhaps you should consider buying a midikeyboard some drumsoundfonts/samplekits (I bought Sonic Implants stuff, which is truly great and costs you only $29, more info at www.sonicimplants.com)....

Programming a good sounding drumbeat can be good fun, btw!
