drum stage?

What is the point of elevating the drumkit at practice? I am interested in renting a practice room and they said they are converting it and building a drum stage. I've seen this before in a friend's home practice room. Thanks.
 
Just to iso the vibration from the drums from everything else and so the drummer is more of an eye level with the band. I'm not sure of what else.
 
It is also to make the drummer "feel better"; you know, he's sitting, everyone's standing. I played with a band that had a 1.5 ft. riser on the drums. It actually felt pretty good... liked being up higher! :cool:
 
maybe its similar to in a live situation. The drum kit gets raised to stop the cymbals from being right inline with the vocal mics. (not the only reason)

Sorry SillyBee, but that is incorrect. Drum risers go back at least as far as early jazz band days.
