Maybe this is one of those RTFM-type questions, but please humour me... :-)

I use Cakewalk Professional 6, which is just fine for me as I only use it for MIDI sequencing (no audio recording). My soundcard is an SB Live! Platinum, and I use a lot of SoundFonts as I have no external MIDI sound sources.

Here's the problem: I know the default channel for MIDI drum tracks is channel 10, and when I set the channel to 10 in the track dialogue box it automatically brings up the GM drum kit to play. I also have a really good SoundFont drum kit, where the instruments are mapped to the GM keys. Trouble is, I can't seem to set the MIDI channel to 10 **and** use the SoundFont drums, as it always plays back the cruddy GM drums instead.

Any idea how I disable the GM kit playback on channel 10, so I can use the SoundFont kit?

Thanks for any help!

Tim

Hi tim...

I'm not sure how you do that...but I can't help wondering
WHY you want to do that?...you could just use any other
channel or combination of channels excluding 10 for your
drum soundfont.

Hi DD,

Sorry for taking a few days to reply - it's that really busy time of the year...

I would want to set the SoundFont drums to channel 10, not because I really **need** to, but mainly for compatibility's sake if I wanted to export the MIDI file to take to another studio setup. Having said that, I would need to rework the file anyway, to play back with GM voices instead of all the SoundFonts I use, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Thanks for making me think :-)

All the best for the festive season...

Tim
