hello.
looking for software to create drum parts. my understanding of the process is that you start with wav drum samples and then set the order through which they run in a program.
using laptop and cakewalk - although i have sonar update. read some recommendations for fruityloops but wouldnt the program be redundant with sonar/cakewalk?
dont have a midi
a few questions:
what is the difference between a sequencer and a tracker?
any words on the following names?
hammerhead
moonfish
tuareg
Little drummer boy
Stomper Hyperion
fasttracker2
my interest is in reggae and african polyrhythms. i've looked at the layout of what i guess are sequencers - grids where you place the sound/sample to be played, and the grid runs through the order in time. regarding these grids:
how would you throw a triplet over the place of say two eight notes? my thinking is that you either lay the beat out in 6/8 where one row of the sequencer is in three - each eigth note could then be alternated with a group of three. but what about a slower triplet = 2 eigth notes??? just the way the slots line up. can you produce a three over two rhythm with the software. or even a single line that varies between a triplet and eight note pulse. it seems that this would be prohibited by the nature of the grid itself where you cant push slots to fall inbetween each other. ??? or run one row faster than another.
it seems you would have to set up all your parts with threes and then record them at a certain speed. and then setup and record the parts with twos at a diiferent speed, leaving the appropriate whole for the threes. and then combine the tracks? pretty tough to juggle speeds i'd imagine so when you put them together they sound like a single line. ???
