Ok I dont know if this is the forum for this for sure but thought i would give this a try first.

I am trying to improve my drum room and sound but as an old guy
my ears are pretty shot.
So if you guys could help me out here on this drum sound I would apresiate it alot.

This was recorded with two oktavas mc012 over head and a atm25 kick mic. through an alesis studio 32 mixer into a wave
824 card with cool edit 2.01
The first 30 seconds is the room with carpet on the floor and the
second 30 seconds is the carpet removed and just the bare
concrete floor with just a small piece of carpet to keep the kick
in place.
Please let me know whick one sounds best to you and please excuse the bad playing and bad sound of my kit.

Thanks

I am by no means a drum room expert, but the bare room track sounds more detailed and brighter and I suspect will work better for you come mix time.

Thought i would also post a pic so you can see the set up Im recording in. thanks

Looks good. The first sounds a bit more dull and blurry to me, but its hard to tell with different beats. I'm not good at drums

I like the second take. It's a bit brighter. I don't know if it's an option for you but if you can, try putting a sheet of plywood under the drums. It's a pretty common trick to brighten up a kit and won't be quite as hard sounding.

Add another vote for #2. The cymbals don't sound much different, but the drums themselves sound more focused.

Another thing to try might be to make a small riser to get the kit off the floor a bit. You just need to make sure it (the riser) doesn't create any bad resonances. However if your ceiling is low it might create problems on your overhead placement.

Thanks for the replys looks like its going to be a bare floor maybe
I will put some tile down or some thing so it doesnt look so bad.

i'm jealous of anyone with a drum room. i want one badly.

i liked the second track better. could hear the snare better.
