hey, I recently made this recording of myself playing drums and I really tried to make it sound as good as I possibly could, the thing is that my equipment is NOT the greatest. I use:

Eurorack mx1604a mixer
audiophile 24/96 sound card
Pretty cheap Audix drum mics (can't remember the model number)
COol edit pro...
All in all, its about 800 bucks worth of stuff (alot for me :))

Let me know how this sounds, I'm fairly new to the world of recording (only 15 years old, I didn't have a job till recently so I couldn't afford this stuff)...i'm not looking for comments on the drumming itself (which is sloppy since i only cared about the sound, not the drumming), i'm more concerned with how can I maximize the quality of my sound without buying new equipment (at least in the near future)....thanks so much for any help...

(btw, i'm specifically looking for help on how to make that kick sound a little deeper, is it an eq thing?)

Dude, You forgot the most important peice of gear, the drumset. It can be an EQ thing but it's really a bass drum thing. Get it?

The gear you have should be fine to get a decent recording. But here's the thing, I'd rather record a great set through your steup than a crappy drumset through all the gear money can buy. Think abuot the sound actually comming from the drums, there's no way around that.

Ok, I just heard the drums, all I can say is...uhh.

More details of the mic placements and stuff. A pic attachment would help if your parents have a digital camera.

no the drums are not very good right now (pretty damn worn out) but there's nothing I can do, i'm damn near broke...

That's BS! There are plenty of things you can do to make kits sound better. Even if they are crappy ones. Start with learing how to tune. I don't mean just getting weird buzzes and things out.... I mean REALLY learn how to tune your drums.
With the bass drum.... my understanding is that depending on your starting point, you sometimes have to tune UP to get a lower pitch or "deep" sound. I won't go into details because I don't pretend to completely comprehend the sheer mechanics of it but it has actually worked for me. It has to do with the frequency response of the mic.... that much I can tell you. You can also mess with compression, effects and creative micing. One word of advice...... to further your skills, don't come here to ask "what would happen if......"? If you have a cool or strange idea, TRY IT first....

Oh.... BTW, Welcome to the boards.
