Drum placement in room

I'm gonna track some drums for the first time at my drummer's house. I think I got a handle on micing them up but I was wondering if I should have him pull the drumms from against the wall toward the center of the room. Room is roughly 20' x 40' with lots of old pinball machines along the sides. Large windows in each wall.

Not having done this before, I don't want to get all set up then discover I should have moved his kit. Any sugestions?

I think the general concensus is...

Against the wall, centered.

Of course, the other rule of thumb is... Do what sounds good!

try out evry posible place in your room and watvr sounds the best do tht it takes time but its worth it

Move the snare around and have him hit it until you find a place that sounds best. Then setup the rest of the kit around it.
