Okay, are there any drum modules out there where I can load up a sample of my own? I wanna sample my snare...is there a drum module out there that has an input for recording your own samples?
I've never heard of one. I use an Alesis DM5 as my midi interface and an Akai S-5000 sampler. To do this on the cheap, you could use an Alesis DM4 and a Boss Dr. Sample. Basically, you need a midi interface for hooking up pads, and then a sampler. There might be a sampling drum module, but I've never seen one.
Wait...now that I think about it, I seem to recall Simmons had something like this. I believe Danny Carey (Tool) uses one.
I think some of the DDrum modules have this ability, but I am not sure. But if you want this feature for recording (as opposed to gigging), you can always use any old module to record MIDI data and then use sound fonts to trigger whatever sample you want. If that's the case, I'd say go for a cheapo used Roland TD-5 or Alesis DM-4 for use just as a midi converter.
man, it sure would be nice if I didn't have to buy a module as a midi interface. It would be hella nice if the roland or alesis modules had a mic input for sampling your own unique sounds. Thanks guys.
The ddrum can accept user samples. You have to package them into a special format and upload them through MIDI. Instructions and software are on their site.
Also, the Alesis DM Pro can accept samples. It uses a custom 8MB Alesis Q card, that works with some Alesis software they include called SoundBridge to store the files on the card.
