Ok people I will be recording some drums next week. I’ve decided to go with the 4 microphone set up because I hear it is the simplest, has less phasing issues and most of all less microphones. (Gota start saving my $’s again)

So. I’ve thought about the Shure SM57 or the sure beta57 (whatever on I don’t’ like on my amp, as I already own the beta)

And here is where I become unstuck. I was thinking about using a sm57 on the bass and then I wasn’t and so on. I want something versatile yet not out of my budget.

Overheads. I have no Idea and within my budget I fear that I may have to get the Behringer C2’s.

My budget is around $400AUS. Could you please recommend some mics.

Cheers.

please take note of the exclamation mark, cool is it not? :D

Dude ,

I too started on a budget and after my Mackie mixer and new Dell the mic's were at the bottom of the food chain . I have a large kit so I eventually got two of these sets . Most retailer sell them for $400.00 . You can find them for $300.00 on e-bay . My second set I copped for $250.00 , new .

The Shure PGDMK6XRL series drum mic set . The PG 52 bass , 3 PG56 tom/snare mic's and 2 PG 81 small condenser mic's .

Some people will tell you they suck but I'll but up clips and you will see they do a nice job . They come with the cables and 3 drum mount clips .
All you need are stands for you overheads and kick and your good to go out of the box .

Shure PGDMK6XRL kit Drum Mic Package

Brand new set on e-bay

Used set on Sale at e-bay

The Meeks and all the others mentioned are VERY expensive in Australia.
Net shopping would be the way to go & then hope customs don't get onto you and do the wounded bull all over your costings.
Cheers

I'll proably go with the meeks. The guy has emailed me and seemed very nice.

You Can Get Drum Mic sets For Pretty cheap These Days...You can Get a Samson 7 Mic Drum Setup (3 tom Mics, 1 Bass Drum Mic,1 snare Mic and 2 Overhead Condencors for Cymbals) for about $250 US.....

You can also get a 5 Mic setup for about $175......

You can even Get a Pretty Good Sound with even cheaper Mics as Long as the Kit sounds Good and is in Good Tune....I Bought 4 Amikliv 1 Instrument Mics and a Dixon Mic and a Shure C606 on e-bay for under $100 that I use For Micing my Drums and I get a Pretty Good Sound (Accept for the Cymbols) It isn"t Studio Quality but good enough for Home recording.....

Cheers
