I would appreciate any recording suggestions on which mics to use or not use on this drum setup. Just general placement suggestions. I know i will have to move them around to find sweet spots. The music is Hard Rock. My mixer is a Tascam TM-D1000 into a DAW and i also have

4 channels of M Audio DMP2 Mic Pre

Kick
Snare
Hihat
Ride
Two Crash
One Tom
Floor Tom

These are the mics i have:

Rode NT1
Rode NT3
(2) Behringer ECM8000
Shure SM57
Shure SM58

Would an AT Pro25 Kick mic help? I can get one for $60.

Thanks.

ecm8000's as overheads, of course
sm57 on the snare
sm58 with ball off on the kick (beater)
nt1 outside of the kick a little out front
nt3 as a room mic.....

Thanks Gidge.

When micing the beater, do i place it as close as possible? Do i mic it like a snare?

Also, do you find when you use two kick mics it's a 50/50 mix
OR is one of the mics primary and the other for effect?

the sm57 will get the top end of the kick, the click of the beater hitting.....the nt1 will get more of the low end......kinda a 50/50 deal....

if you can swing that pro25 you could do it with just that one mic..it is more suited to micing a kick....is that 8th Street where you are getting that price?....
