i got sonar 2.0 woohoo, after days and days of comparing and reading... i didnt wanna throw away 600 bucks on cubase. one thing though. im goin through the manual on how to make drum tracks. and at the part where it says:

in the outport column, click the arrow, hold ctrl + shift and select your source of output.

i cant click the arrow... like it doesnt drop down a menu, but it says "none" someone please tell me what im doin wrong here

k the real problem is i cant playback midi. when i record audio tracks, i can hear em, when i make midi tracks and play em back, nada

To play back MIDI you need either an audio card with a sound chip, or a software synthesiser.

Sonar has bundled with it the Edirol Virtual Sound Canvas DXi, which is a soft synth.

Read the Sonar section in the manual Working With Software Synthesisers. It explains it all very well.

Why can't you buy just a dumb set of midi interface pads without any sounds so it will allow you to bash away and pretend you are hitting real drums? If you can buy a midi controller k/board with no sound of its own, then making a midi drum pad controller box must be dead easy?

I know Akai has made something like that... And don't forget V-Drums! :)

yeh my gfriend is thinkin of getting those v-drum pads. and just clamp em on everywhere around the computer table LOL

but if u use then as the midi triggers like ur sayin, do u still need the brain component?

whoa that came out as girlfriend... lol i meant to say friend

You pretty much need the brain whatever you do, right? ;)

Seriously. Yes, I think that the "brain" let's you connect the V-Drums to other hardware via MIDI. You cannot connect the drums directly to the MIDI-port.

Thanks for that Moskus, I saw it for sale in SOS magazine last night but for what it is it seems bloody expensive compared to my Evolution 361C midi controller. From what you say, I can't just plug that into my Midi port on my computer, I have to slave it off my midi controller?

I think you can, if it has a MIDI Out. ;)

I was thinking about connecting V-Drums directly to the MIDI connections, which I don't think won't work...
