I hope this isn't a topic that's been beaten to death, but my searches didn't turn up a whole lot of *recent* posts on the topic.

I've just started using a Fostex MR8, which I plan to record song ideas/rough productions on. I'm a singer/guitar player and I own a bass so I can do some rudamentary bass tracks. The one thing missing is drums/percussion.

Is there any cheap/free software out there I can use to create simple beats just to round out the sound of my demos? Something I can then output from my PC to the MR-8, and then add other tracks to it from there.

This is for folk/rock kinda stuff, so I don't need anything real fancy.

Thanks

John

Fairly simple and cheap!I have v.4,which I have a number of issues with, but it does work.
I wish to Christ I could get a software version of my old Alesis HR16.I've yet to find a pattern based drum machine that really works well for me like that old beast did.
Here's a free drum sampler I've been playing around with that I really like

but you'll need to construct midi files for it to read, and also have some samples, here's some that I pick from,by HR.coms own Tom Hicks.
