Drum Machine or Software?

I already have Acid 3.0, and I like the easy looping, but I dont get how to edit drum kits, or take a basic beat and add various variations and fills.

I have an old Roland R-8, which is getting very flakey. It doesn't start up right half the time and forgets the songs. When it works, I love it - particularly being able to assign drums to different outputs, up to 8. I haven't seen any newer drum machines with this capability.

Is there something out there that will give me the best of both worlds - the loop chopping of Acid with the editing and separate outputs of the Roland?

I highly recommend software called Spectrasonics Stylus. It has about a 3 gig library of samples - all completely editable to make over a million possible combinations. It is simply BRILLIANT. You can hear demos at http://www.spectrasonics.net/instruments/stylus.html.

I highly recommend you buying from Zzounds.com though. They have perfect customer service and the best prices around, with no sales tax and free shipping on most orders. Here is the direct link.
