I'm using an alesis sr-16 with sonar and directly conecting main left and main right from the drum machine directly into the analog inputs of my audiophile 2496 (I'm not using midi at all). When I record a song from the drum machine to sonar it gradually goes out of sync with the beats in the "now time" bar. Why does this happen?

Well, if you're not using MIDI at all, how does the computer synch itself to the drum machine, or vice versa?

If you just hit play on the drum machine when a number pops up on the SONAR time display, it's a million to one that you'll nail it right. Any inaccuracy will accumulate as time goes on.

Even if you could hit Play on the SR-16 and Record on SONAR at precisely the same instant, if they are not synched to one clock (either the SR-16's or SONAR's), they are likely to drift apart relative to each other over time...

You will need to sync the two units.

You'll probably want to make Sonar the MASTER and make the SR-16 the SLAVE.

SONAR (MIDI OUT) into SR-16 (MIDI IN).

The MIDI connection (in this instance) is for timing purposes only.
