i wanna get a drum machine for making beats anywhere and a midi keyboard for when im actualy there and had the idea for getting the Akai Mpk49 as my midi and the Akai XR20 for a drum machine. im kinda on a tight budget of like $300 for each product so what would be best for those

You've chosen a good drum machine ---LINK --- and you're probably not going to find it for less in the next six months or so.

The keyboard you want is a good one too, but it's in high demand and fairly substantially out of your price range --- LINK. If this will be your first keyboard and money is an object I would recommend waiting for an Axiom or an Edirol or some other recent good quality master keyboard on your local craigslist or on eBay.

or possibly for drum machine what would be better for all around performance tthe akai xr20 or the m-audio triggerfinger

The Trigger Finger is not a drum machine --- it's a midi controller.

You hook it up to your computer via a USB interface and it gives you a convenient way to access drum sounds and sequence drum parts in Cubase, Logic, etc.

If I had $300 to spend on a first drum machine I would get the XR20.

Curious

Just curious - will you use the MIDI controller to play keyboard sounds (i.e. synths, bass, leads), which seems obvious, but?

Your statement is missing a word or two, grammatically, and could be construed to mean that you are going to use the MIDI controller to simply trigger the drum machine... in which case, you might get different advice.

i would like to get both a keyboard midi for synths and a drum machine for both the computer and it as itself that way i can make drums on the go. and for drum machine i think itll be the Akai Xr-20 or even possibly the Alesis Sr-18
but right now drum machine is my main want. id like to get the one with best sound quality and more sounds in it while it still is crisp and clear on how i want to make the beat
