I am using a cd player that has an optical conncection. i am having trouble with the manual on how to copy/paste. perhaps there is an easier way?

can you expand on your question? what would you use as a sound source? you can use the copy and paste functions on the FD8, it works pretty well.

the copy/paste function is pretty easy, once u get through the terrible manual. Working from memory, to copy to set the beginning and end points, using the hold button, and corresponding edit point marker buttons, then select the functions copy, paste and how many pastes using the jog wheel, you can also edit the beginning and end points using the jog wheel. I haven't used this function in a few weeks, and I don't have the fd8 or manual in front of me now. I will get back to you with better intstructions this weekend if this wasn't clear. Other than copy/paste, I can't think of any other way. I have done exactly what you are talking about and after a bit of practice it wasn't that hard. The difficult part is the math of it all. It is really hard to do if your sampled bit of music doesn't fit rhythmically into what you want the beat to be. This takes alot of experimentation, or you can work out the # of beats/bars/seconds, and judicious use of the the jog wheel for editing the start/end points. hope this helps.
