Ok heres the situation. Our drummer quit yesterday just a few weeks before we were going to start working on our new recording. I used to drum for the band years ago and I still have a nice set of tama rockstars, so I figure I might as well do the drums for the recording, as the beats arent anything I cant play.

The only problem is that its been a while since I've played drums and I tried "being the drummer" at practice and I was way sloppy and my stamina was lacking. Basically I'm really rusty.

Anyway, What are some good drum exercises to get me back into drumming shape? I brought my bass pedals home so I can set them against something to practice my pedal skills and speed, but what else should I do? What makes good quiet home made practice pads?

I have never been seperated from my kit. But if you need quite practice time which I've done on occasion is get some stout small pillows and line em up and beat the shit out of em. Could get a little dusty though !
The best thing to do is get behind that kit whenever possible and just practice, wear yourself out.

Single stroke and double stroke rolls are good for stamina.

But, it seems to me what you gotta do is spend a lotta time hitting the drums

If you don't want to buy a drum pad just use like a mouse pad or some kinda of rubber. Work all of the major rudaments to build work on playing cleaner and try playing to a click or to a respectable cd that keeps good time. But as mikeh said try to get as much time behind the kit as possible.
