This is a song I wrote in the early '90s for the last real band I was in. I'm pretty sure we never recorded it, unless someone made a bar gig tape or something. I just recorded the guitar parts, and it would be awesome to get some good drums going on. I didn't write the lyrics, and I don't have a copy of them anymore, but the song was called "Revival"

Funny, the drummer and the singer are now reachable for me on facebook (along with every other person I even conceivably said hello to at some point in my life) - but I just feel so safe here :D

But if you guys tell me the drums are the best part of *this* one, I'm taking a break for a while.

Sounds great. What style of drums are you looking for? I've got a set and can lay something down for ya...

OK - I'm checking with the original drummer (who is currently not in a position to do the track, as it turns out) to get a description of the drumming style.

He says:

Very fast, half time chops on open high hats. I have no idea to how to explain the bass drum I had going on the floor... Banging toms, no snare on that guitar part that's more fingered rather than chords. And when it goes back, straight to super fast ride or mad chops on the crash...

:D

Did I lose you PoeticIntensity? If so, anyone else help a chef out?

Wow...that makes no sense to me whatsoever :p:confused:...maybe to a drummer?

Sorry I don't play drums...just a friendly bump...cool twangy guitar riffs!

Sorry, dude. I'm still here - just workin' on a bunch of other projects.

Hmmm... okay... That helps - a tiny bit. If you could get a midi drum track or something else down, that'd help much more.

Uhhhh yeah... To be honest, that only gives me a tiny bit more understanding as to what the drums could be than I had otherwise.

Not sure when I'll get to it, but when I get a spot, I'll see what I can lay down.

What's popping? Is it the bass?
I like the riff/progression/song & the electric guitar sound.
Get to work on it.

thanks again everybody! The popping is the bass guitar yes - this is just three tracks - a mono electric guitar, mono bass, and stereo acoustic guitar, back in the mix.

The drummer was a big Replacements fan - does that help?

I'll start playing with a midi track, but there's a good chance I'll do more harm than good :D

OK... whew! The midi track attempt was hopeless. I got drums for xmas, and now I've been playing for over a month, so I figured I'd give this a shot - not for a keeper track, but rather to *hopefully* get the *idea* across. I think I've made a lot of progress in the last month, but I find myself humiliatingly incapable of playing along with my own song! :o I found that I couldn't even touch the high hat without completely falling over, so this is just kick drum and snare - hopefully gives the general idea - doable?

It seems to go out of time at some points. I can hear a few times that the electric and the acoustic are not playing together at all. Try and get a really clean, solid take on the guitars first. Like the idea. Guitar tone sounds fine.

It's way off LOL, but just needs to be tightened up. The drums don't sound too bad, just the timing sucks. :D

I sold my drum set because it was a generic POS that didn't sound all that great. When I find one that is of "studio" quality I'll see if I can find you a drummer lol

That's if you guys don't finish it by then.

There should be a forum here for collaborations. Someone could have a scratch rhythm track just to use for a drummer to record. Once the drums are recorded to a professional level the tracks could be uploaded to a file hosting website. FTP 4TW

You could do the same for any instrument. Maybe you want some trumpets, or a smooth ass sax, maybe vocals, bass, lead guitars.

With all the musicians around here the possibilities are limitless :D

+1 about the collabs forum - I'm really misusing the clinic here. That's great to hear that the drum sound is good - all I need is about 10 years to practice and I'll be able to do my own drum tracks. :D (provided I stop reading about how to record drums and start practicing) But again - the drum track is a throw-away of course - just to show potential [ahem, PoeticIntensity] drummers how to approach the song.

As for the timing on the guitars, yeah, it's weird - that's probably why it's not obvious how to approach the song with drums. The guitars both synch up with a metronome exactly they way I want them to, though. The acoustic guitar part wasn't in the original arrangement, and I could drop it in a heartbeat if it's not working.

I got a drum track done for ya. PM sent. Hope ya like it. :)

Nice riffin' Chef!
Love to hear it with drums and a voice. Nice guitar sounds.

Joey :):):):)

I got PI's track, and it's kickass - I'm working on putting it in. The acoustic track is definitely taking a hike. There were words, but I didn't write them, and I've lost track of any place I might have had them written down. The band I was in performed this in/around Omaha NE ~1990 (plus or minus a year), but we never recorded it iirc.

OK - here it is -

(PoeticIntensity - the nudge forward was what was needed - not sure what my alignment issue was - THANKS AGAIN!)

This is supposed to be a very energetic song, so those drums work very well

wow, that actually worked out great. Just needs some vocals and some lead guitar fills to keep it interesting. I normally like to add lead fills last so I can hit the no vocals spots with some hot licks :D

Great job guys I really like it.

Don't mind if I say so myself, but that sounds *great*! Good work, antichef!
