Hi guys im new on here and after some help and advice.?
My band are recording an album we are doing the recording our selfs with the help of a engineer friend, we rehearse in the second story of a old ware house.
The size of the room is approx 20ft x 35ft i was thinking of making some carpet covered panels "im a carpetfitter so get the stuff for free"

The sound im after is a big live bonham/dave grohl, Also a big fan of mastodon`s drum sound sound its a old school metal band. My kit is a tama superstar birch 22 x 18 bass drum 12 x 9,13 x 10,16 x 16 toms and i have a few different snares to try.

Yeah man, I'm pretty sure you just pissed everyone off!

:D

Any rate, I'd love to have a room that big.
If your drums sound good in it, decent mics and placement should record them well. Period.
Dedicate some time for experimenting, and do so. That's the best advice I got.

To get a dave grohl sound you'll want to mic your toms along with overheads, snare, and kick drum. It's a very in your face sound. You can look up how the drums were recorded on your favorite album and try to copy that. Try not to make the room too dead by putting carpet everywhere. And TUNE the drums properly.
