Hi all, I am a bit of an amateur guitar/singer guy ever since I was young .... I'm 45 now :)

I bought Adobe Audition and am recording a few songs, however I am not happy using my acoustic guitar for base or drums.... :D ..

Is there anything I can get free or cheap to create some basic drums or bass for use in Audition ?

Any info or references would be very much appreciated.

you could download demos of FruityLoops or Reason, although I'm not sure if you can export or ReWire your tracks to Audition in the demo verisons. I know Reason 2.5 is $199 at Guitar Center(Reason 3.0 is coming out soon) and I swear by it.

Does Audition do midi ?

If not, or a you want to use and easy / simple midi editor, try freeware JAZZ++ from www.jazzware.com

I'm 45, too, play guitar, and have been using midi for drums, bass, backing strings, etc for 4 years. The previous 20 years plus of material was.

You can use existing midi's for drums, and copy and paste into a suitable arranglement.
One of the neat things with JAZZ++ is you can enter everything via the mouse. Create a few bars, and copy and paste.
I even have some songs are 12 or 16 bars, and just loop. I will finish them later.

Hey thanks guys... I'll check them out and let you know how I get on.

THANKS.
