Call me nuts but I was inspired by the trials that Slack went through to record his stuff.
Heck, I've just got cats, and they don't diss me over my singing.
My synth tunes are another matter.
The whole production from front to back took less than 2 hours so far.....
It needs some work I know, but I had to consume enough ethanol to even think about recording my voice to HD just to capture the vocal idea for future reference.
~2.5MB for a 192Kbps mp3 file.

I did the same thing, typed in drstawl instead of drstaul. I listened to this while eating scrambled eggs for breakfast ewwwwww!

Was this a requiem for one of your very own or is this a cats eye view or do I need to consult Freud? Nice mix couldn't dance to it. I give it a 7.

Layth

Another hit, I can't wait to own all your albums.

The doctor is IN. Please tell this unworthy one how you got the vocal goin' on....Zappa would be ever so pleased with this tune and lyrics...do more vocal stuff do more do more....gibs

Thanks. It warms my heart that you mentioned Mr. Zappa and my music in the same sentence.
The vocals were miced with a cheapo dynamic
and then redone on a separate take. I blended the two takes panning each 23% off center.
I'm not too pleased with the match-up. But I knew that more takes would have to wait for another time.

Holy Crap... I had a hard time getting my head around this one... I've never heard anything like this before in my life. How do you come up with stuff like that? I'm not saying I don't like it... it's just SO different to anything I've ever heard before. I'll give you 10 out of 10 for originality, that's for sure. I'll let you know in a couple of days, once I've had time to digest it fully what I think

No password needed. Just enter "drstaul" in the "Visit an Idrive" box and you're on your way.

Layth: Sorry about your breakfast... :)
The lyrical inspiration was just my personal response to the sadness evoked by the synth
background.

Actually, this reminds me of some of the stuff off of Vai's "Flexible", esp. the vibraphone solo. Very cool. I'm still astounded that you made the vocals fit over the background. You're the master of ordered chaos, aren't you? ;)

Oh, another note: I think the double-tracked vocals work really well the way they are. Maybe you shouldn't try to get them perfectly in sync....

Ryan

Hey- thanks. That ordered chaos comment could apply to my studio as well... And I think I could get the vocals synced up better without losing that weird effect.

Very interesting work.
Were you mad at your cat when you wrote this?
I like it. It seems like it would have been a challenge to make the vocals mesh well with the rest of the tune but you pulled it off quite nicely.

dmc

On the contrary; it was a mood piece based entirely on the emotions surrounding cat splat.

indeed, very Zappaesque
I'm not a big cat fan, so I found it amusing in a disturbing, slightly alarming way. :)
good job. lol

Good job doc! This song seems like a form of abstract art and certainly tells and interesting story. How did you end up writing that song? Did it just pop into your mind? or was there preparation?

Cool stuff as always Doc, vocals work very well. Could hear some percussion in there maybe.

Emeric

Yeah Darvis: my roots are in abstract art.

Preparation?
How can one prepare for Cat Splat?
Don't tell me apron, boots, gloves and goggles and face shield.... :)

drstawl,
That was cool. I think the quality of the recording was very good, and I think you should record more of your vocals damn it!
I like this stuff.
bobbo

He didn't name me the evil twin for nothing!

Regarding Bobbo's suggestion about vocals how about doing something more conventional with Marilyn thrown in? Just an evil suggestion.

Layth

Doc, I don't know what to say except I like it. My cat is giving me the evil eye now though...only one way to fix that.
