I am now getting dropouts in Sonar. After about 2 seconds into the song, I get a drop out. I thought it might be the Norton Anti-Virus so I have disabled it. It still was having Droputs. My CPU is 0%. I dont understand it because I just played the song last week.

here's my set up:

Any help would be appreciated.

Has this setup worked before?
What os are you using on the sonar?
Have you tried adjusting the audio options?
Do you have all uneeded programs shut off?
I suffered from major dropout problems and after nearly giving up alltogether found out it was a bad hard drive,so hardware might be a possibility.
Man what a list of gear, you should really share you know?;)
I use gigasampler also and I think it rocks!

GOOD LUCK!

I am currently using Win 98. I have not touched the audio functions since I bought it. I am not sure what to look for as far as audio settings. But, a strange thing happened tonight. Last week, I bouced to tracks the whole song so I could burn it to cdr. By bouncing the tracks (tracks 1-20) to an stereo audio track mixdown (track 21), I started having the droppout problem. So tonight I deleted the audio track, track 21 and I had some success with playback again. I had the audio track 21 muted before and had all the other midi/audio tracks play the song. but, the problem still occurs once in a while. My CPU usage is usually 30-35% and Disk Usage 0-15% on this song.

I hoped this makes sense.

The drive is a new 7200 rpm Western Digital. It runs great.

How do you "turn off" un-needed programs? By control-alt.-delete and then "end task" on all the unimportant programs?

thanks,
tcdave

Don't shut off explorer or systray inthe ctrl alt delete box.
From what I can gather you have a single hard drive,if this is correct you may be finding the limits of your tracking.Maybe try moving your latency slider up a bit when you do your bouncing. If this does'nt work you could do some archiving and submixing but that would really be archaic.
Also have you tried compacting audio or cleaning your disc under the tools menu in sonar?
Have you defragged lately?
Once again GOOD LUCK!

i think acidrock hit everything right on the head.
also, i think there is a limit to what the soundblaster can do. but definitely look into adjusting the latency slider to correct dropouts.

Sort of OT, but I would really like to see that picture of your setup. The link didn't bring up any picture, just "The File You Are Looking For Is Inaccessible."

Startup programs

If you find that it's programs running in the backround causing the dropouts, you can prevent them from starting up in the first place. Go to start/run and type in msconfig, click ok. Choose the startup tab and uncheck all the programs you don't need to start when the computer boots up. Check out this site to get an explanation for each application.

Good Luck!

Make sure DMA is checked on you hard drives.

It's not clear to me whether you actually deleted the new track, or just muted it. If you only muted it, it is still using resources. What you should do is Archive it. By archiving, the track is ignored by Sonar and doesn't use any of your resources.

You can also try using Sonar's compact audio command on the file, and also try defragging your hard drive.

Also, have you done a lot of slip editing to the file? When you slip edit, all the "hidden" audio data is still in the file. It helps if you "apply trimming" to the slip edits. But be careful, this gets rid of the hidden audio underneath, so you won't be able to get it back. Make sure it's stuff you don't want.
