dropout

Help! I'm recording a 30 min stereo track to tape & keep getting a dropout in the same place - after about 25 min. When I stop & start it bk up it's fine, but I can't do the recording. what's happening? Thanks.
 
explain what you're using. mic, software, what gear...what exact steps your taking.
 
Do you have any kind of auto-sleep or suspend settings on your system? If it's set to go to sleep after 25 minutes or a half-hour this could cause your problem.

No auto sleep settings... I have a 30 min track recorded on Cakewalk GT Pro, am simply playing it back while I record to cassette tape. Sounds good until the dropout. It happened 2-3 times.
 
Can you burn CD's? Burn one and make your cassette from that.

Have you EVER been able to play the file in its entirety?

My first thought would be to increase your latency settings and see if that helps. If you set them too low there is a definite increase in drop outs. The fact that it happens at the same time every time makes me wonder if there is a problem with the file.

The same thing happened w another 30 min file - same place. How can this be?
 
Did you record the track in a single 30-minute take?

If you start playing the track just before the spot it drops out, does it still drop out or does it play OK?
 
Good point. What a jump it is fr analog to digital! I started just bef the dropout point & it was fine. I recorded the original in many sections w lots of editing, & bounced 32 tracks together. I defrag often & clean out orphaned wav files... however I do only have about 1.5 gig free space left on my hard drive until I get my back up system straightened out. does that make a difference? Thanks.
 
If you only have 1.5GB free, then you could be running into swapfile issues if Windows starts to manage it. Maybe increase it by 100MB & see if that makes a difference
