Any of you is playing in drop D? I play guitar for like 12 or 13 years now, and I played a lot of different tuning with different bands, and it ends up like I'm confused about the gauge I use. For the last 6 months, I always play only in drop D (D-A-D-G-B-E) and I tried a few different strings gauge but, I never feel it like I'd like too!

So, what do you suggest? I setup my lespaul with a Boomer's TNT (10/52) today and, they a too tight. Well I feel them too tight. The strings just before were Daddario 10/46. In the standard E tuning, they were ok, but, when the E was dropped to a D, I feel it too loose.

I will probabely end up with a 10/46 set but...

I wanna know what you guys are using for a drop D tuning? :)

i play quite a
bit in dadgad/drop d/cgcgce, and i use a custom set with a rather heavy e and lighten other strings. for acoustic (my usual choice), i go 56-42-32-25-16-11. will have to monkey around some to pick for electric, since i'm not playing electric regularly.

Me i play a seven string and i like em heavy and tight i used to throw a light high g bass string by markley and Elixer top heavys (gague im to inatentive to recall) I personally find the stiffer the better and thats not necesarily for the heavy grind guitar effect eathier.

...take your git to a pro luthier and tell him what you're looking for...your lp can be set-up/adjusted for whatever your needs are...it does, however, require the right person--someone with plenty of experience...find that person and you're good to go.

Hi,
Since you're happy with the way that the 1st 5 strings of the 10/46 set feels, why not just buy a few single 6th (Low 'E') strings (between .047 and .051) and experiment until you find a size that feels good to you.
Good luck!

Take care,
Tony

P.S. If you only want to buy 1 string, I'd try a .048
